The Simpsons are recently wrapped up their 32nd season and will be around for at least another two seasons. If you’re at all a fan of the show (even during periods of time) you’ll likely have noticed just how many places The Simpsons travel to. Both abroad and within the United States, they’re quite the travelers!
Now being the cartographer that I am, I’ve always been curious as to the exact locations they’ve visited. And while there are a few lists and basic maps out there that try to give this information, I found that they were rather lacking in their completion. So what did I do during the COVID pandemic? Well I watched every single episode on Disney+ of course and tracked (to the best of my abilities) where the Simpsons traveled to and what episode it was during their excursion. The results of all that “work” were then mapped in the above global travel map for all their international destinations.
Note: I did not include any Treehouse of Horror or other “non-canon” episodes. This is only for mainline full-22 minute episodes. Additionally, this is only for travel by at least one of the main cast of the Simpsons. So no Abe Simpson, Selma and Patty, Chief Wiggum, etc. Marge, Homer, Lisa, Bart, or Maggie must have accompanied them.
While I can’t say that I didn’t miss any destinations - many times I just had an episode sitting on in the background while I worked or cooked or whatever - I can say that I’m pretty surprised by the results. For one, I fully expected The Simpsons to have been in Russia. In fact I can almost see them standing in front of the Kremlin in Moscow, but try as I might I couldn’t find any evidence of such an episode existing. I was also equally surprised and delighted to find Denmark in an episode.
What about the United States?
Of course I couldn’t leave out national travel as I was documenting. Again, there might be some mistakes in here (like no Texas?), but it’s still quite funny to see where The Simpsons go on a regular basis. I was quite surprised that Florida was so well represented, even more so than New York!
No doubt The Simpsons have at least a few more destinations to add to their list. Heck, I may have even missed one or two locations from season 32. But if you have ever asked yourself which places have The Simpsons visited over the years. Then I hope these maps bring you some closure.
