The Simpsons have traveled quite a bit within the United States! The above map shows every state the Simpsons have traveled to as well as the cities they visit. Unfortunately, not every state is equal in the Simpson’s eyes. Some states get more screen time than others and others are left out entirely. And while we shared a map of the Simpsons’ global travels a few weeks ago, we thought this map of every state the Simpsons have traveled to would be a bit more fun.
A few data caveats here:
This map does not include “non-canon” episodes such as the Treehouse of Horror series.
In order to be included, at least one member of the Simpsons’ direct family has to have stepped foot in the episode during the time frame of the episode.
This does not include any visits made in the latter half of the current 32nd season.
Which states have the Simpsons visited the most?
The Simpsons have traveled to the state of Florida twice as many times as any other states. Six episodes currently feature the state in some way with both Miami and Orlando represented. New York comes in second with just three visits. Surprisingly, California appears only twice, the most populous state. Oregon, Arizona, Missouri, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., and New Jersey appear twice as well. Oregon for what it’s worth, is the home of Matt Groening, the creator of the Simpsons helping to explain their visits. In fact, the city of Portland, OR just opened the Ned Flanders bridge!
While we can analyze the states the Simpsons have visited all day long, the states missing are interesting. Texas, for example, is always ripe for parody. The same can be said for West Virginia and New Mexico as both have unique cultures. Washington state also seems like an odd miss. Seattle, and the growth of Amazon, seems like an easy episode to write.
There are at least two more seasons coming. So there’s still plenty of opportunities for more states to be featured. That said, the Simpsons typically only make 2-4 trips per season and that includes international travel as well. So while we may get a Texas and/or Seattle-based episode coming, some states will forever be left out. That just the way the pink-frosted doughnut crumbles.
